CANBERRA, Jan 20 AAP - It could take up to 18 months before new homes were built toreplace those lost in Canberra's ferocious firestorm, the Master Builders Association(MBA) said today.

MBA chief executive Wilhelm Harnisch warned residents whose homes were destroyed inSaturday's blazes it would be a long process before they had new houses to move into.

"At this stage, people would be expecting that it could take up to 18 months," he said.
