BLUE BELL, Pa. -- Fiberlink Partners with Sierra Wireless to Add CDMA Wireless Coverage in the United States
Fiberlink Communications Corp., a trusted enterprise partner for remote access and managed services, today introduced the industry's first wireless data service plans that offer enterprises ubiquitous wireless connectivity for mobile and remote workers. Working with Sierra Wireless to pair a leading CDMA wireless network with access from nationwide Wi-Fi hot spots, Fiberlink's new bundled service plans address the specific needs of enterprise customers that want wide-area wireless coverage and full security, support and cost control built into a unified remote access solution.
Fiberlink will distribute a bundled offering of the Sierra Wireless Aircard(R) 555 CDMA 1X wireless wide-area network card, Fiberlink's Extend 360(TM) software and a Fiberlink access plan to corporate customers looking to expand their options for secure Internet connectivity.
"Wi-Fi is a great first step for enterprises looking to provide untethered connectivity to their mobile and remote workers, however, end-users must remain anchored to the hot spot and cannot roam," said Howard Pressman, product manager of mobile professional solutions. "This can be cumbersome for the true 'road warrior' who is always on the go, wanting to be connected and productive. By adding a wireless wide-area network to our suite of managed services, Fiberlink offers a comprehensive 'all access' mobile working solution that provides end-users with reliable access and IT managers with security and cost control measures."
Extend360(TM) is the first software of its kind to combine Wi-Fi, CDMA, wired broadband and dial-up networks with a policy-controlled, managed security solution. Working in conjunction with Fiberlink's Dynamic Network Architecture(TM) (DNA), Extend360(TM) allows workers to seamlessly roam between a full assortment of wired and wireless technologies depending on their work environment, without worrying about configuring network connections.
The Sierra Wireless AirCard 555 is a Type II PC Card that offers "always-on" connectivity over a CDMA 1X network, allowing users to work productively away from the office. With seamless support for a wide variety of devices and operating systems, the AirCard 555 supports data transfer rates of up to 153 kilobits per second (kbps).
"The addition of the AirCard 555 and CDMA 1X service to Fiberlink's suite of remote access solutions offers customers a true anytime, anywhere wireless experience that allows them to increase productivity and gain competitive advantage," said Dan Schieler, Vice President Sales, Americas for Sierra Wireless. "We are pleased to join Fiberlink to deliver these benefits to their customers, reaching more than 500,000 corporate users."
Fiberlink is the only service provider to offer wide-area wireless network connectivity alongside every form of wired and wireless access available, providing enterprises and end-users with a solution that is both cost-effective and simple to manage. Extend360(TM) gives Fiberlink customers a single solution that offers diverse means of access to end-users while minimizing the enterprise IT department's cost to configure, deploy and manage remote access services.
Pricing and Availability
Fiberlink will make the CDMA service available to new and existing customers as part of several promotional bundles, which include:
--"All Access" Plan - A flat rate for unlimited access to any and all of the networks Fiberlink provides: Wi-Fi, dial-up, wired roaming broadband and CDMA.
--"Blended" Plan - A usage-based, single and consistent rate for each access type, providing flexibility for enterprises to control costs independent of the technology that gets users connected.
--"Embrace it" Plan - A pay-as-you-go plan that provides access to all networks and allows end-users to experience wireless wide-area technologies without requiring the enterprise to make large investments. Pricing is set low but is different for each transport type.
